Department of Applied Physics
Liz Shtrahman is a PhD student in the Applied Physics Program, and she joined the lab in 2008. Her research focuses on studying spatial and temporal patterns of neuronal electrical activity, which underlie brain function. She utilizes both electrophysiological and novel optical techniques to study these patterns of network activity in cultures of dissociated rat hippocampal neurons. This includes performing multi-electrode recordings with MEAs in addition to imaging with both calcium sensitive and voltage sensitive dyes.
